Celebrated International Rural Wemen Day_ Honored Laurimaya Thami

In order to honor and congratulate Ms. Lauri Maya Thami who won the international Women’s creativity Rural Life award, 2015 provided by Women’s World Submit Foundation (WWSF), Action Works Nepal conducted a program in coordination with other organizations at Khalanga, Jumla, on 15th of October 2015.

The International Ruler Women’s Day, kicked off with rally at morning with the participation of more than 150 participants at Jumla, Khalanga. After rally, a program was conducted in the FNCCI Hall, to honor Ms Thami where there was a significant participation of the government and non-governmental stakeholders, rural and local leaders, district networks, political leaders and media peoples. The Chief Guest of the program, District Judge Mr. Bhanu Bhakta Sharma honored and congratulated Ms. Thami by highlighting about her contribution in the community and handed over certificate.

Speakers in the program focuses on  local women’s  right  and  promotion of the women from local level and empower them  focuses on the promotion of gender equality, reproductive health rights, representation of women in different decision making process and so on. Some expressed that Ms. Thami as a role model real example of her society and also a encouragement for other people.  
Where the International prize winner Ms. Thami shares her views that she feels honored with this prize and express heartily thanks to WWSF team for selecting her for the prize. With this prize she feels added responsibility towards society and also committed that she will continue to contribute in the society until and unless she could work. She also added some bitter experiences while working in the community and focused that women should be empowered in every sector and there should be full support of other family members too.

Training on Gender Based Violence, Safe Abortion and Women Empowerment in Jumla, Nepal


A three days training on Gender Based Violence (GBV), safe abortion and women empowerment is organized for social mobilizers from Jumla (Lamra, Kudari, Sannigaun) and Kalikot (Phoimahadev, Rachuli) in Jumla, led by Radha Paudel, Laxman Chaulagain.

Protest: Hunger Strike for Gender Responsive Constitution

Founder/ President Ms. Radha Paudel, PO Ms. Laxmi Pandey and Admin and Finance officer Mr. Ramesh Pandey stayed whole night at the starting day of the Hunger Strike.
As a Part if Collective Campaign, Hunger Strike was started from 2nd September, 2015 , demanding rights for the Gender Responsive Constitution. in the upcoming constitution. This strike mainly aims to give pressure on the government to change the provision in the draft of the constitution which denies women's right to pass on citizen ship to her children. More than 50 organizations showing their solidarity in the campaign.

Protest: Mass Rally for the Gender Responsive Constitution

The Collective Campaign for Women-friendly Constitution organized a rally from Babarmahal to New Baneshwor  from 10: 30 to 11:30 to give pressure the government and lawmakers for women-friendly constitution ensuring citizenship through mother's name and equal participation and representation of women in all areas of governance and power. Women’s rights networks, organizations, rights activists, professionals, general women, individuals youths participated in the protest . The participants chanted slogans against the revised provisions of draft constitution. The  Campaign has been protesting on the streets since last two weeks and is relentlessly taking the movement forward. They are determined to take to the streets unless all their demands regarding women rights are fulfilled.

After the rally reached New Baneshwor, more than 200 participants of kept  chanting slogans. Even in the scorching sun in the morning, the participants didn't seem tired or weary. The rally ended after the address of  Women Right Activists Ms. Radha Paudel  also the Founder/ President of  Action Works Nepal . She strongly addresses the mass, urging every individual to support the campaign as it is not just concerned with women but is necessary to all to build a equal and just society.

Protest: Mass Sleep for the Gender Responsive Constitution
